We
love basses....everyone does....right?
If you work on double basses, you have to love them.
Working on basses poses lot's of challenges. From the sheer size and
workshop space required to the unique understanding of the many ways they can be
played.
Basses, unlike any other orchestral
instrument, have no set of rules that is universally accepted. Often, the
bass is shunned from workshops and left to be repaired
by anyone with some clamps and glue. Too frequently, we see simple repairs
and maintenance work that turns into full blown restoration simply trying to
reverse years and decades worth of neglect and poor repair.
@ Upton Bass
String Instrument Co. our goal is to elevate repair, setup, & restoration
of the double bass to the grandest level of respect. We are sure our
commitment, knowledge, and the quality of work we conduct on every bass is
evidence of our dedication to this goal.
And....yeah, we love basses....did we mention
that?

Bass Set-up & Adjustments
It is rare that we see
a bridge on a bass that truly works. We have
literally cut thousands of bridges, and the result are definite opinions based
on factual evidence of
what will yield the best tone while being structurally sound and offer the best
degree of playability to the bassist.
We are so confident in our ability
enhance the playability and tonality of any double bass that we will gladly refund the first 1 hour
session of consultation and repair if you are not 100% completely
satisfied with the result of our work.

Jack works on a Alois Bittner bass while Noah works on a 1940
Frank DiLeone bass.
