We love the model, the bass bar is actually carved well, and
things were well thought out. Weak glue, that's this basses only problem.
It appears as if open seams, bouts, etc have been a problem for many years.
Perhaps the domestic woods were not seasoned long enough, or the difference from
Pacific North West Coast to Atlantic North East Coast is to blame, but this bass
as a tendency to want to come apart. It came to us as almost the entire
length of top center seam is open, and clearly it has opened before.
Our clamps are a perfect choice for this application as
not allot of room is available due to the bass bar and the arching. Spaced
every two inches we are able to get enough clamping pressure to pull the joint
back together. We use one of the strongest and clearest hide glues
available today. Specially formulated to meet the needs of the AFVBM, we
bought one of the last 50lbs bags known to exist to insure we had enough to last for many,
many years.
Diamond cleats the entire length of the center seam will add
insurance that this seam will not open again.
